Hack Club is running an event for free stuff like Framework laptop!

Hack Club, the non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young creators, has recently announced their latest event, High Seas. This unique event is designed to inspire young minds and provide them with an opportunity to win incredible prizes, including the coveted Framework 16 laptop.

What daheck is High Seas?

High Seas is not a hackathon; it's a online event that gives you stuff for building almost anything! Participants will have the chance to win amazing prizes, learn new skills, and build amazing projects. The event is open to everyone from the age 13-18, regardless of experience level.

Why should you participate?

  • Win Amazing Prizes: From Framework laptops to iPads, there's something for everyone.
  • Learn New Skills: Gain valuable experience in programming, design, and more.
  • Have Fun: Immerse yourself in a creative and supportive community.
  • How to participate?

Participating is easy. Just head over to highseas.hackclub.com and enter your email address. You will be added to a queue and receive an email with participation instructions soon!

Is there nothing bad about it?

    Well, unfortunately, there is.
The prizes are too expensive, and there is no confirmed amount of time you have to code for each prize. For example, getting a simple domain for one year has a price of 40 doubloons(virtual currency earned with coding time).
It takes around 2-8 hours to earn 40 doubloons. The bad thing here is that you can get a domain for 4 years if you get 40 doubloons in 2 hours, but one 1 year if you get 40 doubloons in 8 hours. So you never know the time needed to get the prize accurately.

The framework laptop takes 208-1037 hours to earn, which is not accurate at all. But if you manage to get 3075 doubloons, whether in 208 hours or a thousand hours, your Framework Laptop is confirmed.

Framework laptop is nearly impossible for many. A month has around 700 hours and most of the teenagers can't really code for 1000 hours in 3 months. The event ends on 31 January, 2025.

Hack Club's last event - Arcade

Arcade was like High Seas as well, but you had "scraps". It was run in the summer. Each scrap equals a hour of work, no matter what is it. It can be a code project, drawing, or any other hobby thing. You just needed to provide pictures and valid proofs that you actually made something. That time, you could get a MacBook Air M2 for 400 scraps, which was very accurate. You knew that if you code for 400 hours, your MacBook is confirmed. Framework laptop's cost was the same aswell. Moreover, it was run during the summer - means the entire June was free, so you could do all the work you wanted. But this time, many have school, so it's hard to do stuff.
